Tips for success within your major and college: "One tip for succeeding within the Mayborn School of Journalism is to get involved with at least one of the many student organizations. Personally, I have really enjoyed being a part of the North Texas Daily as I have gotten hands-on experience being a journalist. From learning how to conduct interviews to receiving feedback from my editor, I greatly improved as a writer and reporter during my time with the North Texas Daily. There are student organizations for almost any facet of journalism, broadcast, print and otherwise, making it easy to find your niche and prepare for a career in journalism."

What I wish I knew as a freshmen: "As a freshman, I wish I knew how welcoming and accommodating the Mayborn student organizations are. Coming into college, I was nervous to even try to join a student org like the North Texas Daily, thinking I was too inexperienced to do it. After the fall semester, however, I finally mustered up the courage to join the paper and instantly felt at home. My editor was super helpful in teaching me some of the intricacies of AP style and just generally guiding me into newspaper writing, even accommodating when I didn't meet the deadline for my first article. It has been a great experience, and I hope no one is scared away from participating in student organizations because they feel like they are not good enough, because many people are willing to help you learn, you just have to put yourself out there and overcome the fear of failure."

A campus office or service I recommend: "One campus office I recommend is the Learning Center in Sage Hall. I scheduled several tutoring appointments with them for my Spanish class this past semester, and every time I left with a better understanding of concepts I previously struggled with. I really appreciated the tutor's extensive knowledge of Spanish and ability to answer pretty much any questions I had."

Career goals: "I am looking to work my way up into a career as a sports journalist, not only as a writer but through other mediums too such as podcasts or videos. I feel this will be the most effective way to engage with a modern audience which demands more than just traditional journalistic writing. Working for one of the major players in the industry such as ESPN, Fox Sports or The Athletic would be amazing, but even just building a career in sports journalism would be a dream come true for me."

Hobbies: "I am a huge sports fan, so I love both watching and playing sports in my free time. I enjoy listening to country and rap music, whether it be while I'm writing, driving or just relaxing. One activity I picked up during the pandemic is playing disc golf. I've really enjoyed playing at the two courses in Denton and several others in the surrounding area. It has become a fun way for me to get out and exercise without it feeling like a chore, though it may have turned into a bit of an obsession."
