Student Use of English Requirement

Proficiency in English composition is required by the University Core. To fulfill this University Core requirement, each candidate for graduation must have shown competence in written expression, by earning satisfactory grades (C or better) in the 6 hours of required English composition courses:

  1. English Composition I or Technical Writing (3 hours) - ENGL 1310 College Writing I, or ENGL 1311 Honors Composition I, or ENGL 1315 Writing About Lit. I, or TECM 1312 Grammar and Composition for International Students, or TECM 1700 Intro. to Professional, Science and Technical Writing
  2. English Composition II or Technical Writing (3 hours) - ENGL 1320 College Writing II, or ENGL 1321 Honors Composition II, or ENGL 1325 Writing About Lit. II, or TECM 1322 Composition and Rhetoric for International Students, or TECM 2700 Technical Writing

All students who have earned a grade of D in one or more of the two required English Composition courses listed above must retake the course and earn a grade of C or better. NOTE: The list of core English Composition courses above is for the current catalog, your catalog year may have different or additional course options; see your academic advisor for questions about approved courses for this requirment.
