UNT Department of History - LGBTQ History Month Event - Dr. Julio Capo, Jr. - Undesirables: A Queer History of US Immigration Policy

Dr. Julio Capo is an associate professor of history and public humanities at Florida International University, where he serves as the deputy director of FIU's Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab. His book, Welcome to Fairyland: Queer Miami before 1940, was published by UNC Press in 2017 and won several book awards, including the Charles Sydnor Award from the Southern Historical Association for the best book written on southern history. He also curated "Queer Miami: A History of LGBTQ Communities" for the Miami History Museum, an exhibit that won the 2019 Museum Excellence Award from the Florida Association of Museums.

Dr. Capo will give a public talk on Wednesday, October 2, at 11:00 am in Sage 116 titled "Undesirables: A Queer History of US Immigration Policy."
