Inaugural Scripps Howard Foundation Emerging Journalists workshop inspires the next generationThe Mayborn School of Journalism - selected earlier this as one of only two universities nationwide to participate in the Scripps Howard Foundation's Emerging Journalists program - recently completed the first summer workshop for high school students. Led by Mayborn alumna Leah Waters, the team workshopped with noted journalists, learned about reporting, writing and editing, and practiced pitching stories to editors. "That was the most revealing part of the entire week," Mayborn Alumna Brianna Adams, who assisted with the instruction, said. "To see them learn about what makes a story newsworthy and how to convince others that you've got something." |

Alumna Dustee Jenkins makes the #MaybornProudCongratulations to Dustee Jenkins ('01) for being named one of the "Power List 50" public relations practitioners by PR Week. The magazine reports that "Modern communication now resembles a complex ongoing political campaign on behalf of a brand or corporation, played out through paid, earned, social and owned media" - skills Jenkins first learned at the Mayborn School. Jenkins, the head of PR and global communications for Spotify, is a strong Mayborn supporter and has participated in our ongoing Mayborn Mentors program. |

New student-run agency "AGenZ PR" focuses on communications from a Gen Z perspectiveIt started a decade ago with SWOOP, the Mayborn School's student-run advertising agency, an intense training ground where eager students do "real work for real clients for real money." It continued with HATCH Visuals, a student-led photography agency that has produced stellar imagery for many clients. Now it continues with AGenZ PR, the Mayborn's new student-operated public relations that views communications challenges through a data-driven Generation Z lens. Now in its second year, AGenZ PR provides consulting and services - including data, digital, content and social media - to several institutions and agencies who want to better understand how today's generation thinks, feels and acts. |
