Research Interests

Dr. Matthew Painter is interested in wealth attainment and social stratification in the United States. His work has appeared in Demography, Social Forces, Social Problems, The Sociological Quarterly, and the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies. In addition, he has served as the Chair of the Department of Sociology since 2024.
