Background & Research Interests
Dr. Kiet Huynh is an Assistant Professor in the Counseling Psychology program in the Department of Psychology at the University of North Texas. His research focuses on improving the well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals and racial/ethnic minority populations. Specifically, he examines how minority stressors—such as institutional and interpersonal oppression, internalized stigma, rejection sensitivity, and concealment stress—contribute to mental health disparities. His work also investigates resilience factors, including community belonging, identity pride, critical consciousness, and advocacy, that promote psychological well-being within these communities. Dr. Huynh employs quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches in his research, with particular expertise in measurement development, meta-analysis, and longitudinal data analysis. His work has received both federal and grant foundation funding, and has been featured in outlets such as American Psychologist, Psychological Bulletin, and Journal of Counseling Psychology.
