Why Study Latin?
Latin enriches many fields of study, but may be particularly useful for students interested in archaeology, art history, history, law, literature, linguistics, musicology, philosophy, political science, religion, archival work, chemistry, biology, and more other careers. There are literally millions of Latin and Greek terms and names used in botany, biology, anatomy, chemistry, psychiatry, pharmacy, microscopy, bacteriology, etc. A strong base in Latin helps build linguistic awareness and skills with strong transfer value to English and many other modern languages. At UNT, Latin is a requirement for the Classical Studies minor offered by the Department of History. Latin is a well regarded language for university admission, because it demonstrates a high level of academic achievement and language skill that translates into success in higher education.
Minor in Latin
A minor in Latin consists of a minimum of 18 semester hours in Latin, including 6 advanced hours. A minimum grade of C is required for a course to count toward the minor.
Transfer Credit and Placement Test
