Background and Research Interests
I am currently an associate professor and director of the Behavioral Sciences Division
of the Department of Psychology at the University of North Texas. I am also the director
of the UNT Neurocognitive Laboratory. Research in the UNT Neurocognitive Laboratory
incorporates basic and applied experimental cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience
techniques aimed at understanding healthy and disrupted human memory, memory awareness,
and executive function. To investigate these questions, my team and I regularly use
specialized computerized testing, neuropsychological batteries, eye-tracking, galvanic
skin response (GSR), electroencephalography (EEG), and functional near-infrared spectroscopy
(fNIRS). I have also previously conducted research using functional magnetic resonance
imaging (fMRI) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). I have experience working
with participants from sensitive populations including cognitively impaired older
adults, breast cancer survivors, and anterograde amnesic patients, and I have extensive
experience working with healthy younger and older adult participants. During my time
as an educator and research mentor at UNT, I have actively trained students in collaborative
research with students from the Texas Academy of Math and Sciences (TAMS), UNT undergraduates,
Ronald E. McNair Scholars, and dedicated PhD students in the Department of Psychology.
My research training and mentoring experience are cross-disciplinary in nature, and
I am dedicated to training helping to prepare members of the future scientific and
academic community.
