Education
Rutgers University - New Brunswick, New Jersey (2016)
Background & Research Interests:
Dr. Olson joined the University of North Texas in 2016. He received a B.S. in Kinesiology
and Health Promotion from the University of Wyoming prior to completing a Ph.D. in
Nutritional Sciences at Rutgers University. His interdisciplinary training laid the
foundation for his unique approach to research and teaching, where he integrates principles
from psychology, neuroscience, and physiology.
His research interests centers on the fields of sport/exercise psychology and behavioral
neuroscience. He utilizes psychophysiological techniques to better understand how
exercise (and other behavioral interventions) influences brain function, cognition,
and mental health. His research has a particular focus on both enhancing performance
and identifying neurocognitive vulnerabilities in at-risk populations, including individuals
with a history of concussion and those experiencing metabolic health challenges.
Dr. Olson works closely with graduate students on research and professional development,
helping them build skills applicable to academic, clinical, and industry careers.
