Why Study Italian?

There are estimated to be around 65-80 million Italian speakers globablly. Knowledge of Italian is a useful skill for people interested in Italian business, hospitality, travel, art history, history, painting, music, sculpture, literature, food, film, fashion, and more. Learning a second language is a crucial skill to develop intercultural abilities that will help you navigate the globalized world. The UNT Italian program provides students a solid command of the language as well as an appreciation for the variety of cultures that make up the Italian peninsula.

Minor in Italian

A minor in Italian consists of a minimum of 18 semester hours in Italian, including 6 advanced hours. Demonstration of proficiency may be substituted for credit in courses equivalent to ITAL 1010 through ITAL 2050. A minimum grade of C is required for a course to count toward the minor.

Transfer Credit and Placement Test

Placement for credit by examination may be used to satisfy ITAL 1010-2050 or by transferring credits from another institution approved by UNT. For placement test information, please see the Placement Test section on our website for details.
