The Certificate in Entrepreneurial Communication consists of four courses that together build a strong foundation in strategic, innovation-focused communication.
Students complete a course in entrepreneurial communication and a course in grants and proposals to develop skills in opportunity framing, persuasive messaging, and securing resources.
The certificate also includes a foundational technical communication course, such as style and technical writing, technical editing, document design, or digital literacies, to strengthen core professional communication skills.
To complete the certificate, students select an additional course that aligns with their entrepreneurial interests. This course may be chosen from technical communication offerings or from another discipline, allowing students to tailor the certificate to their academic background and career goals.
Students are encouraged to work with their technical communication advisor to identify a coursework plan that best supports their entrepreneurial focus.
Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA on the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework prior to earning a bachelor’s degree, or a 2.8 GPA on all undergraduate work.
Applicants do not need to have an undergraduate degree in professional or technical writing in order to apply for the Entrepreneurial Communication Certificate. This certificate is open to any student with an undergraduate degree from an accredited university.
Applicants whose native language is not English must submit a TOEFL.

Classes in the Entrepreneurial Communication certificate emphasize applied, project-based work that mirrors the communication demands of entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial settings.
Depending on the courses selected, students may develop opportunity assessments, stakeholder analyses, persuasive pitches, funding or partnership materials, and communication strategies that guide project development.
Coursework is designed to help students practice framing ideas, communicating value, and planning communication efforts that support sustainable innovation.
Courses are taught by award-winning faculty who are available to meet with students and provide individualized feedback. All courses are delivered asynchronously. Each week’s lesson is released at the start of the week, allowing students to complete the work on their own schedule, with assignments generally due one week after the lesson is posted.
