Recent University of North Texas Political Science alumna Grecia Monroy has earned a $40,000 Rotary Global Grant, an achievement that will take her to the London School of Economics and Political Science to pursue a master’s degree in International Social and Public Policy. This prestigious award is the result of Monroy’s outstanding academic record, leadership at UNT, and dedicated mentorship from faculty and supporters.

Monroy, who majored in Political Science at UNT, will be hosted in the United Kingdom by the Rotary Club of Radlett. Her journey to securing this opportunity was shaped by experiences such as the NTDC program, which placed her in the U.S. Congressional Office of Representative Michael C. Burgess—a role that strengthened her application for the Rotary Global Grant.

The UNT Office for Nationally Competitive Scholarships (Honors College) and Dr. Gloria Cox (Political Science) played key roles in guiding Monroy’s application. Faculty members, including Dr. Roman Hlatky, Mr. Benjamin Rizk, and Representative Burgess, provided compelling letters of recommendation that helped her gain admission to LSE—an essential step for the Rotary scholarship. Additional support from the UNT Marshall Scholarship Nominating and Mentoring Committee, including Professors Margie Hayes, Ben Graf, and Rafe Major, refined her interview skills and prepared her for this competitive process.

Beyond UNT, Monroy found guidance from the Rotary Club of Grapevine and Mr. Conrad Heede, a past Rotary District Governor and current Scholarship Chair of Rotary District 5790. Heede has long supported UNT students in their pursuit of global education, and Monroy’s success reflects Rotary’s commitment to its ethos of “service above self.”

With this achievement, Monroy joins the ranks of distinguished scholars shaping global policy. As UNT awaits word on another Rotary Global Grant applicant, the university proudly celebrates Monroy’s success and the faculty, mentors, and organizations that made it possible.

Congratulations to Grecia Monroy and her supporters on this incredible accomplishment!
