A scholarship from Michael P. Murphy to provide for undergraduate College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences students who qualify as middle income at the University of North Texas.

An applicant must meet the following requirements:

  1. Complete the scholarship application form and submit email address of Professor/Instructor for letter of recommendation, (UNT Professor/Instructor is preferred), transcripts of all collegework (these can be unofficial), a general narrative statement, and additional need-based documentation.
  2. Meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
  3. Maintain full-time or part-time enrollment as an undergraduate student, unless the student is nearing completion of their degree program and does not need full-time enrollment.
  4. Have earned no fewer than 30 credit hours toward their degree at time of application.
  5. Have at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent) at the time of application.
  6. Demonstrate ineligibility for need-based financial assistance as determined by completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which includes an application process that contains written release from the student to share FAFSA information between university departments and donors coordinating related award processes.
  7. Provide letter of recommendation from person familiar with the applicant's academic work, work ethic, or personal strength. You are only obtaining one letter, so make sure your contact is someone who can provide the strongest possible recommendation.
  8. Narrative statement should be one page (single spaced) describing your academic background, career aspirations, extracurricular interests, and how this scholarship would personally benefit your need-based circumstances.
  9. For this particular award, you will also be prompted to upload need-based documentation in addition to your narrative essay. This should include FAFSA information demonstrating your ineligibility for most financial assistance due to income as well as a written release for this information to be shared with our review committee and donors.

In the event that multiple applicants meet the criteria listed above, preference shall be given to those who are sole caregivers to minors. In the event that applicants should still not meet this criteria, any student enrolled in CLASS who are ineligible for FAFSA would be eligible for consideration. This scholarship may be awarded to a previous recipient on an annual basis if recipient continues to meet requirements outlined.
