Denton, TX - The University of North Texas has selected three students as recipients of the 2022 Ricco Ethics Scholarship with two of the honorees from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

Undergraduates Davis Anderton a junior in the Department of Media Arts took first place ($5,000) for his work- "Cybersecurity on a College Campus Case Study", while Abbie Cunningham a sophomore in the Department of Psychology earned second place ($4,000) for her work "Ethics in Protests". Graduate student Kendra Schaffer claimed the graduate prize. UNT will apply the earnings to each student's fall semester balances.

"During my time at UNT, I have constantly felt the pressure of funding a college education as a first-generation student, but thanks to this generous gift, I will focus more on my studies throughout the next semester rather than an ability to afford it", said Cunningham (2024). "I remain overly grateful for this opportunity given to me."

The Ricco Ethics competition was created to promote intellectual debate and discussion on ethics as related to students' areas of study at UNT, their field of vocation, or their avocation.

The scholarship began in 2011 when a generous gift from Nicholas D. and Anna G. Ricco, longtime friends of UNT, created an endowment and is open to full-time undergraduate and graduate students in good academic standing.
