During the first week of October, the University of North Texas College of Liberal
Arts and Social Sciences Department of Economics hosted its 2nd annual meeting of
the Consortium of Hispanic Serving Economics Departments in Denton, Texas.
The on-campus event is held annually each fall and gives the Department of Economics
an opportunity to provide sessions on a broad range of economic topics - bringing
together established and emerging scholars to present leading-edge economic research,
educate, collaborate, and recruit.
In total, seven professors and 15 undergraduates joined UNT faculty and students
for the two-day conference (Oct. 7-8). The attendees represented economics departments
from three public and three private Texas universities, and for the first time, undergrad
student Jose Chaman from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas presented.
The purpose of the conference is to attract outstanding undergraduate students to
a career in Economics. Undergraduate students that experienced an Economic Conference
are able to observe the variety of issues economists research.
Professor David Drukker from Sam Houston University did a presentation on STATA,
where he worked for many years. Dr. Drukker provided an interesting overview of the
statistical package and how it works and can be of service when conducting economic
research.
CLASS professor, Dr. Janice Hauge gave insight on how to apply to graduate school
with particular emphasis on the Economics program at UNT.
The annual meeting is sponsored by the Department of Economics and HSI Economic Departments.
