Dr. William "Buddy" Scarborough, an assistant professor of sociology at the University of North Texas, has had his work cited in a presidential economics report.

Scarborough, who started with UNT in 2019 co-authored an academic article with Caitlyn Collins, Liana Christin Landivar, and Leah Ruppanner, (equal authors): "COVID-19 and the Gender Gap in Work Hours. Gender, Work & Organization 28: 101-112."

Gender, Work & Organization work examined used panel data from the US Current Population Survey to examine changes in mothers' and fathers' work hours from February through April 2020, the period of time prior to the widespread COVID-19 outbreak in the United States and through its first peak. Using person-level fixed effects models, the authors found that mothers with young children have reduced their work hours four to five times more than fathers.

The 2023 Economic Report of the President was presented on March 20, 2023, to President Biden beginning with a reflection by President Biden about the administration's economic accomplishments, opportunities, and challenges ahead; thereafter nine chapters follow.

Scarborough, a native of Michigan has an undergraduate degree in sociology from Alma College in Alma, Michigan, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Chicago, Illinois.
