UNT undergraduate Ms. Madison Card has won an immensely prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, described by NSF: "The NSF GRFP recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported STEM disciplines who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees at accredited US institutions. The five-year fellowship includes three years of financial support, including an annual stipend of $34,000 and a cost of education allowance of $12,000 to the institution."

Madison has majored in psychology and is an outstanding member of both the UNT McNair Scholars Program and the UNT Honors College, which houses the McNair Scholars Program.

As publicized, "The Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program at the University of North Texas (UNT), commonly referred to as the McNair Scholars Program, is a two-year program designed to prepare 33 talented and motivated undergraduates for successful achievement of a PhD. The McNair Scholars Program, named after the late Black American astronaut Dr. Ronald E. McNair, aims to expand access to graduate education and diversify the American research community by class, socio-economic status, and ethnicity." The UNT McNair Scholars Program has historically been at the forefront of encouraging students vie for national-scholarship distinction.

Madison will graduate in May 2022 and pursue her Ph.D. at Northeastern University, where she will be affiliated with that university's Center for Cognitive and Brain Health.

At the core of the UNT McNair Scholars Program is research-based undergraduate education. Madison's McNair Mentor--who sponsored her highly productive undergraduate research--is Dr. Anthony Ryals (Psychology). He, of course, submitted a highly supportive letter of recommendation, as did Dr. Sharon Jenkins (Psychology) and Dr. April Becker (Behavior Analysis). Letters of support likewise emerged from Northeastern University's Dr. Charles Hillman and Dr. Arthur Kramer (Center for Cognitive Brain Health).

Congratulations to Madison, the Department of Psychology, The McNair Scholars Program (under the new Directorship of Ms. Rosa Fonseca), the Honors College, and UNT.
