The Second Annual UNT Department of History Alumni and Friends Event Featuring the D. Harland Hagler Memorial Lecture

Join us for an evening of history, conversation, and connection at the Second Annual UNT Department of History Alumni and Friends Event. This event is a departmental homecoming, bringing together alumni, faculty, staff, and current students each year to celebrate our accomplishments and reunite with friends and colleagues. Join us to learn more about exciting work taking place in the Department of History, to celebrate undergraduate and graduate student awards, and to enjoy the D. Harland Hagler Memorial Lecture, which will be delivered in 2026 by Dr. Chloe Northrop.

 Parking

Parking is free and available at the Greater Denton Arts Council. Attendees may also park in the nearby Union Bear Brewing lot.

 Chloe Northrop HeadshotDr. Chloe Northrop is the Department Chair and Professor of History at Tarrant County College. Her recent publications include “Flagellating Females: Insense and Insensibility in Plantation Jamaica” (Britain and the World) and Fashioning Society in Eighteenth-Century British Jamaica (Routledge). In Fall 2024, she was a guest curator for an exhibit commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII in Johnson County, Texas.  She is currently working on Sea Daddy: Shifting Tides of British Naval Celebrity in the Eighteenth Century which focuses on images and material objects of British naval heroes. Her research and exhibits have been supported by the Paul Mellon Centre for British Art, ACLS, Colonial Williamsburg, Humanities Texas, NEH, and most recently as an American Historical Print Collectors Society Fellow at the American Antiquarian Society.

Donations must be received before 3/13 in order to qualify; please be sure to include your name with the donation so that we can confirm receipt. Donors can indicate their size choice (XS – 4XL) on the RSVP form above.   • Because these cardigans are custom ordered, we cannot offer exchanges or refunds.
  • Orders must be picked up at the Alumni & Friends event, or in Wooten Hall at a later date.
  • The deadline for placing pre-orders is Friday, March 13th. We will be unable to order cardigans after this point.

The Dr. Hagler Memorial fund, created in recognition of Professor Hagler’s exceptional dedication to UNT students during his decades of service in the department, supports current history undergraduates by providing resources for internships and community engagement across North Texas. The event is named after former UNT professor Dr. Harland Hagler (1937-2023). Dr. Hagler taught southern history at UNT for 51 years, before his retirement in 2017. He created the first course at North Texas dedicated to the study of African American history in 1969 and was a beloved professor and colleague.
