Mia Rogers Bestowed UNT’s Golden Eagle Award

Denton, TX - The University of North Texas Division of Student Affairs, Department of Student Activities has selected Mia Rogers as a Golden Eagle Recipient. The Golden Eagle Award is the most prestigious award that UNT bestows upon a student leader; recipients show a tremendous commitment to co-curricular activities and enhancing campus life at UNT by engaging in considerable service and displaying great leadership, all while achieving excellence in the classroom.

Rogers is a senior Anthropology major in the Honors College finishing up her B.A. with an expected degree completion in 2023. Previously, Mia has served as the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences (CLASS) Ambassador for Anthropology and the Outreach Coordinator Officer for the Undergraduate Anthropology Student Association. She was also the 2021 recipient of the prestigious Larry Lee Naylor Memorial Scholarship.

"The Golden Eagle Award is a symbol for continuous personal growth, dedication, hard work and passion to make a positive change in the world around me", said Rogers.

Rogers is currently serving as a student/faculty liaison with the department, where she facilitates communication between the department's undergraduate community of majors and the faculty. She works closely with the Director of Undergraduate Programs and advocates for the needs of its student body.

"In actively learning how and attempting to create community through my leadership roles and volunteer work, I have not only found power in my voice, but I am able recognize the importance of change and valuing the experiences of others. However, it is in valuing others' experiences that I not only recognize that change through action and open conversation is necessary to better myself, personally and professionally, but also to foster the community and social change that I hope to see in the world", said Rogers.

In connection to UNT's 125th anniversary celebrated in 2015-2016, the Center for Leadership and Service and Student Activities created the Golden Eagle Award. The Golden Eagle Award is the most prestigious award that UNT bestows on a student leader. Any student who has been a leader in campus life, student organizations, athletics, research, activism, mentorship, etc. and has had a positive and meaningful impact on the UNT community is encouraged to apply for the 7th class of the Golden Eagle. The recipients are those who show a tremendous commitment to co-curricular activities and enhancing campus life at UNT by engaging in considerable service and displaying great leadership, all while achieving excellence in the classroom.
