The United Nations has designated 2019 the International Year of Indigenous Languages to bring attention to issues of language loss and language revitalization. UNT is taking the lead among Texas universities in recognizing the International Year of Indigenous Languages by planning a series of events for Fall 2019, beginning with a keynote event featuring MacArthur Fellow Daryl Baldwin and Healing Sacred Voices on September 9, 3 PM in UNT Union 333.

University of North Texas lecturer Carla Carter-Bishop found her calling for film as a child while flipping through pages of the book, “Great Black Entertainers: Paper Dolls in Full Color.”
Inside the brightly-covered children’s book, she found images of famous black entertainers such as Dorothy Dandridge, Hattie McDaniel, Paul Robeson and Ethel Waters. – all of whom were accomplished creatives who served as role models for Carter-Bishop’s own career in film.
The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education™ reaffirmed UNT’s standing as a Tier One research university — an achievement recognizing the university’s efforts to grow its research enterprise and commitment to rise toward national prominence — in a recent 2018 rankings report released Feb. 15.
Leaders from Peacemakers, Inc. presented UNT with $21,000 that they raised for the Vivian Castleberry Trailblazer Scholarship. Vivian Castleberry, Dallas icon and journalist, founded Peacemakers, Inc. in 1987.
